The Bardo - Punk Rock - PD and Mike met in 1996, worked
with numerous bassists and a couple of guitarists, played a series
of shows with One Minute Silence, Machinehead and Coal Chamber and
met Laura in February 2000. Signing a record deal with Riverman
Records a year later, the trio have played with the likes of Static
X, Groop Dogdrill, Miocene, Clutch, The Kennedy Soundtrack, Number
One Son, Easyworld, The Moonies, Tiny Elvis, Miss Black America
and most recently Queen Adreena, 80's Matchbox B-Line Disaster and
Face to Face.
'Libertine', the debut offering from the London based
band, was recorded at the Townhouse in December 2001 under the watchful
eyes of Head and engineer Tom Stanley. 'Question, Persuade, Refer'
(RMR12CDS) was released on 3 June 2002 to great press, and the follow-up
'To Inhabit' (RMR16CDS) was released on October 28th.
The Bardo played a show at the Elbow Room, New York
as part of the CMJ Music Marathon in October and attracted some
industry interest. They hope to follow this up in the coming months.
Is it possible to be rock, punk and metal all at once? The Bardo
think it is. But are they any good, you ask? In a word, very. 'I
smoke 40 a day Marlboro' - gruff vocals and riproaring guitars are
where this three-piece are at. Three words: energetic, enigmatic
and exceptional - make way for The Bardo. Rock Sound - Issue 37,
June 20024/5
Format: Three-track CD ('Question, Persuade, Refer'/'Search And
Destroy'/'System') The Bardo have a really nasty quality to their
sound (and that's meant in a good way). There are moments on 'Question,
Persuade, Refer' when it actually sounds like there is a pack of
Rottweilers in the studio barking down the key changes and having
a playful chomp on lyricist PD's vocal chords. The Bardo are snappy,
tight and vicious, grinding away at metal sensibilities without
spiralling into self-indulgence and 'Question, Persuade, Refer'
is a sprawling monster of a rock tune. Kerrang! - 18 May 2002 KKKK
